Wayne T.
Heifner
Jul 25, 1945 — Jun 25, 2025
Wayne T. Heifner
Born in Kansas City, MO, in 1945, Wayne was the youngest of 5 siblings. He always considered himself a country boy even though he moved to Illinois when he was around 8. He grew up working alongside his father as a carpenter. He survived a car accident at 17 that should have taken his life. He talked about this incident often because he believed God spared his life, which solidified his faith.
Through the years, he continued doing carpentry work while remodeling his own home. Due to some health issues, he took a short break to go back to school and became an occupational therapist and then a roof adjuster, but the pull of remodeling was too strong to ignore and he went back to that. After over 50 years of doing what he loved most, Wayne decided to retire.
Almost 4 years ago, Wayne and his wife, Linda, moved to Sycamore to have a more quiet life. Wayne said living here felt like he was back in Missouri, which gave him some peace.
Wayne went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2025 - one month shy of his 80th birthday. He is survived by his wife, Linda, and his five children, Vaughn (Michele) Heifner, Monica Heifner, Chris (LaTasha) Lux, Ashley (Vince) Smith and Gwen (Aindreas) Downing. He was a grandpa to his six grandchildren, Heather, Christopher, Connor, Luke, Rosie and Logan. He was an uncle, a great uncle, and a great-great uncle to many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial for Wayne at Bethel Assembly of God church, 131 W. Elm St, Sycamore, IL on July 19, 2025. Visitation will be at 10am with the service at 11am. Following the service will be a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.
