Timothy J. Swanberg, 60, of Sycamore, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on September 13, 2026, surrounded by his sons.
He was born on April 12, 1966, in Chicago, Illinois, to the Rev. Dr. Kenneth H. and Josephine H. (Carter) Swanberg. He grew up in Moline, Illinois, where he spent his childhood and formative years.
Timothy graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. He enjoyed a successful career that took him around the world. He worked for 22 years at Noble USA as a Sales Manager, traveling extensively throughout Southeast Asia and other parts of the world. His travels gave him a deep appreciation for the cuisines, cultures, and customs of the many places he visited. He later worked as a Purchasing Agent at Nippon Sharyo and went on to serve as a Senior Commodity Manager at Logisnext.
Timothy had many interests and passions. He was a devoted Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears fan and enjoyed riding his bike, playing golf, listening to rock music, and, most of all, spending time with his boys. He coached his sons’ sports teams and served as a leader with the Cub Scouts. He was incredibly proud of his sons and cherished getting to be a Grandpa (Papa). Timothy had a special appreciation for bold flavors and spicy foods. He enjoyed seeking out new dishes, sampling different sauces, and sharing meals with family and friends.
Timothy loved comedy films and had a unique way of finding humor in everyday life. He especially enjoyed making others laugh and sharing his witty comments with the people he loved. He was always willing to listen and be there when someone needed him. Timothy was also known for his strong will and determination. While he could be stubborn at times, that same steadfastness reflected his loyalty and commitment to the people and things he cared about most. Over the years, he picked up countless Japanese quips and sayings through his travels and work, and he loved to humor his family and friends by working them into conversation.
He is survived by his sons, Nathan (Elise) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Michael of DeKalb, Illinois; his stepchildren, Alyson (Mark) of Clare, Illinois, and Blake (Michael) of Chicago, Illinois; and his grandchildren, Alyssa, Lincoln, Hudson, Truman, and Rune.
He is also survived by his siblings, Jennifer Swanberg of Moline, Illinois, and Jeffrey (Michele) Swanberg of Springfield, Illinois; and his sister-in-law, Debbie Swanberg of Moline, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Dr. Kenneth H. and Josephine H. (Carter) Swanberg, and his brother, Erik Swanberg.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, September 18, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
Visitation will follow the service from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
