Obituary

Thomas Edward Baldwin, 75, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on December 27, 1947, in Elgin, IL to his parents Walter and Esther Baldwin.
Tom was a proud Navy veteran serving aboard USS Mahan in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Tom spent 40 years working on the railroad, for Milwaukee Road and Metra as an engineer. Passionate and dedicated, he loved his job and it showed in the way he always greeted his passengers and peers alike with a smile and a pull on the engine horn.
Aside from his work on the railroad, Tom was a skilled woodworker. Known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail.  He spent countless hours in his workshop, creating beautiful pieces of furniture and other works of art that his family and friends will treasure for years to come. He also put his skills to good use volunteering for Habitat for Humanity for many years.
Tom was a man of God and attended Crosswinds Community Church. He was an active member of the congregation and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He found great joy in serving others and was deeply loved by his church family.
Above all else, Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Jacquelyn, his three children, Jennifer (Michael) Hagemann, Tommy (Claire), and Becky (Michael) Foss, His brother, Jerry (Diane) Baldwin, and children Lindsey Heimberg, Aaron Baldwin and his seven grandchildren, Autumn, Hayley, Anna, Lucy, Nora, Jessie and Thomas, and many cousins and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his half-siblings, Ray, Corrine, and Jean.
He was a constant source of love and support for his family, and they will miss him most dearly.
Tom was a kind and generous soul who touched the lives of everyone he met. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched throughout his life. It was important to Tom that he spoke about God's transformational love. His talents bridged from building with wood to building strong spiritual relationships with those around him. Those contributions will be sorely missed.
A visitation will be held Monday, May 1st from 5-8 PM at Crosswind Community Church, 13100 Cherry Rd., Genoa, IL 60135.
Celebration of life will take place on Tuesday, May 2nd at 10 AM at Crosswind Community Church.  Burial will follow at the Genoa Cemetery with full military rites.
Lunch will be served at the church after burial services are complete.
The family requests that, in place of flowers, donations be made to the Wounded Warriors charity in Tom's memory in care of the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main, Genoa, IL. 60135.
