Sylvia J. Berger, 85, of Sycamore, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She is now reunited with her beloved husband and soulmate, Donald Berger.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, on November 10, 1939, Sylvia was the youngest child of Walter and Emma Wilke. She spent her early years in Chicago, close to her aunts and uncles, before her family settled in Lisle, Illinois, after a brief time in Wisconsin.

Sylvia's friends introduced her to the love of her life, Don, and they married in October 1961. They built their home in Oswego, Illinois, and raised three daughters: Mary, Patti, and Renee. Sylvia poured her heart into nurturing her girls, meticulously sewing their outfits and cultivating a home brimming with love and adventure. The family cherished their time together, enjoying camping trips, bike rides, and vacations across the United States. Sylvia took immense pride in seeing all her daughters graduate from college, a testament to her unwavering support and encouragement.

After Don's passing in 1982, Sylvia embarked on a new career path. She returned to school and became a Certified Nurse's Aide, quickly transitioning into Recreational and Physical Therapy. She worked at Mercy Center and later Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital, where her compassionate spirit helped countless individuals regain strength and movement after illness or injury.

In 1989, Sylvia moved to Sycamore and found her spiritual home at Sycamore United Methodist Church. An active and devoted member, her passion for helping others shone through her dedication to coordinating numerous mission trips with UMCOR, especially those to Louisiana. She also found joy and camaraderie working with friends at Ode to Joy Dinners and through her Women's Circle.

Sylvia harbored a deep love for travel, exploring the wonders of the United States and the world. She shared these incredible adventures with her grandchildren, introducing them to the beauty and history of Spain, France, Germany, and Italy. When her travels became more limited, she continued to find adventure within the pages of books and through her passion for painting. She was particularly proud of the vibrant roses she cultivated, a reflection of her nurturing spirit.

Sylvia is survived by her devoted daughters, Mary (Curt) Christensen, Patricia (Tom) Sauber, and Renee (Fred) Grisch. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Kelly (Gilbert) Marrufo, Michelle Christensen-Garcia; Cody (Jami) Sauber, Garrett Sauber, Samuel Sauber; Nicholas (Katelynne) Grisch, Olivia Grisch and Jacob Grisch. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren, Harvey and Hadlee Garcia, and Makayla Sauber.

She is joyfully reunited with her husband, Don; her parents, Walter and Emma; her brother, Wallace; her sister, Joan Ebel; and her grandson, Max Sauber.

A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Sycamore United Methodist Church, 160 Johnson Avenue, Sycamore, IL 60178.
