Susan D. Zographos, 77, died from cancer on April 16, 2025 at her home in Sycamore, Illinois.
She was born on January 8, 1948 in Chicago to Frank and Dorothy (Tutland) Plantan. She was the oldest of six siblings and grew up in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. She graduated from Forest View High School in 1965 and married her high school sweetheart Richard T. Zographos on December 3, 1966.
After living in Kansas for Richard's air force service, she and her husband raised their two children in Wonder Lake, Illinois beginning in 1974. She lived there and was active in the Christ the King Catholic Church until she moved to Sycamore, Illinois in 2005.
Susan was employed as a communication consultant for over twenty years at Hewitt Associates in Lincolnshire, Illinois and continued working as an independent benefits writer until her death.
Susan particularly enjoyed gardening, but she also loved reading, scrapbooking and traveling.
Susan is survived by her daughter Michele Whisenhunt and son-in-law Ben Whisenhunt, son Steven Zographos, and grandchildren Meredith Whisenhunt, Matthew Whisenhunt, Danielle Zographos, Zack Zographos, Owen Zographos and Veronica Yurchak. She is also survived by her mother Dorothy Buchmiller and her siblings Lois Larson and husband Larry, Frank Plantan and wife Janet, Kathy Stutzman, Tom Plantan, Mike Plantan and wife June and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Zographos in 2000 and her father Frank Plantan in 1972.
Visitation/Celebration of Life: Friday, May 16, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL
Funeral Mass: Saturday, May 17, 11:00 a.m. at the Christ the King Catholic Church, 5006 E. Wonder Lake Rd., Wonder Lake, IL
