Obituary

In Loving Memory of Susan Rae Lockwood
December 9, 1946 – July 28, 2025

Susan Rae Lockwood passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospital.

She was born on December 9, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Adella Marie Mathers and Joe C.K. Mathers. Susan graduated from DeKalb High School in 1965 and later attended beautician school, beginning a career in hairdressing that she enjoyed for many years.

Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She deeply loved her family and always made her children and grandchildren feel cherished and special. She had a heart for caring and a creative spirit, which shined through in the beautiful quilts and handmade pieces she crafted with love.

She found joy in gardening, filling her yard with vibrant flowers each summer. She had a passion for shopping, always on the hunt for the perfect home décor, new outfit, or unique find that caught her eye. Some of her fondest memories were made on family trips to Florida, where she loved basking in the sunshine with those she loved.

Susan had many nicknames that captured her fun-loving and vibrant personality—SusieQ, Sassie Susie, and Spicy Susie, just to name a few. Her sense of humor, infectious laugh, and ability to light up a room will be missed beyond belief. We will forever treasure the moments she made us smile, laugh, and feel truly loved.

She is survived by her loving husband, David M. Lockwood; her sister, Billie Jo Gee, and husband Warren Gee; and her children:

David Lockwood and wife April Lockwood
Danielle Tull and husband David Tull
Merri Michalski and husband Jim Michalski
She was a proud and devoted grandmother to:

John Andrew Schilling and wife Hannah Schilling
Morgan Rondina and husband Fred Rondina
Dylan Lockwood
Ty Lockwood
Samantha Tull
James Michalski
Cameron Michalski
She was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Jackson Rondina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adella Mathers and Joe C.K. Mathers, and her brother, Ronald Mathers.
