Susan M. Hammermeister, a beacon of warmth and joy, peacefully passed away on June 21, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her home. Born on January 17, 1965, in Elgin, Illinois, Susan's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.

Susan was the cherished daughter of the late William and Betty (Fiene) Rudolph. She grew up in Schaumburg, Illinois, and carried her warmth, kindness, and sense of humor with her throughout her life.

Susan began her career as a dedicated dispatcher for the Roselle and Schaumburg police departments, where her calming presence and commitment to helping others shone brightly. She then chose to focus her boundless energy and love at home, becoming a stay-at-home mom, a role she embraced with all her heart. As her children grew, Susan returned to work with the Kaneland School District, where her passion for nurturing young minds found a perfect outlet, particularly in her beloved role in special education.

An adventurous spirit at heart, Susan loved to travel, seeking out sun-drenched destinations where she could bask in the warmth she so adored. Whether cruising through the Caribbean and Panama Canal or exploring the beauties of Hawaii and Florida, Susan was happiest when there was water nearby and the sun shining down. Susan had a remarkable ability to find joy in every circumstance and a smile for everyone she met. Even during life's most difficult challenges, she chose laughter over self-pity and met each day with grace, strength, and optimism. One of her favorite sayings was that embarrassment was simply a waste of an emotion—a reflection of the way she lived her life with confidence, humor, and an unwavering ability to see the bright side of any situation. Her warmth, positivity, and genuine kindness made everyone around her feel welcome, valued, and loved.

Above all else, Susan's greatest joy was her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 35 years, Ronald Hammermeister, whom she married on November 15, 1991; her children, Michael Hammermeister, Daniel (Jenna) Hammermeister, and Caitlin (Ryan) Edwards; and her four treasured grandchildren, Nicholas, Mason, Evan, and Liam, who brought her endless pride and joy. She is also survived by her brother, Jeff (Shannon) Rudolph, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish the love, laughter, and memories she shared with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Betty (Fiene) Rudolph, and her sister, Deborah Vangundy.

Susan's life was a testament to love, kindness, and resilience. Her legacy is one of warmth, laughter, and putting others before herself. She leaves behind countless cherished memories and a family whose lives were made better by her love. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
