Steven J. Wig, 62, of Cortland passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2024, at Northwestern Medicine- Kishwaukee Hospital.

He was born on September 27, 1961, in Elgin to Chester and Georgia (Howe) Wig.  He married his high school sweetheart Cindy Downing on July 16, 1983.

He graduated from Sycamore High School in 1979 and attended Kishwaukee Community College, receiving an Associates of Science.
Steve worked at Brown's Supermarket for over 20 years, ending his career there as the meat manager. He moved on to various positions in the foodservice industry, most recently with Gordon Food Service. He was highly respected in his field by his customers and co-workers.

Steve had many passions in life including camping with his friends and family as well as the family's dogs, Sadie and Maya.  He was taught many of his handyman skills by his father, Chet and father-in-law, Lloyd.  He used those skills to complete many household DIY projects both at home as well as for family members.  He could often be found in the aisles of Menards with a good cup of coffee waiting for him at home.  In his downtime, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, as well as watching his favorite TV classics, DIY and crime shows. He was proud of his grandkid's accomplishments in baseball, softball, and horse competitions and loved cheering them on from the sidelines.   Perhaps his greatest hobby was teaching his grandkids many of the same skills that were passed on to him.

Survivors include his mother, Georgia; mother-in-law, Bette; wife, Cindy; daughters, Brianna (Mike), Megan, and his grandchildren, Scarlet, Jameson, and Henry; siblings, David, Dan (Tracy), Theresa (Paul) Corrado, Tim (Kristi), Christine, Jeff (Geni), and sister-in-law, Laura, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Chet; father-in-law, Lloyd; brother, Mike and brother-in-law, Steve Downing.

His Celebration of Life will be held at Faranda's Banquets (302 Grove St, DeKalb, IL 60115) on Friday, July 12th from 4pm-8pm.  Light appetizers and dessert will be served.

Steve's two greatest passions were his family and camping. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to his grandkids' future, and to a memorial for one of his favorite campgrounds, Shabbona Lake State Park.
