Obituary

Spit-shined shoes? Not a chance! Spit-shined R6? Now you're talkin'!  We could stop there and you could probably get a sense of who Steve was.  He cared very little for material things and what drove him were his passions – family, motorcycles, running and of course, his little Mimi.
Everyone who knew Steve understood his amazingly caring and generous heart.  He would go to any ends of the earth for anyone, wanting nothing in return.
Born and raised into the farming community, Steve Reh, exemplified the life of family first!  Born to Pete and Margaret Reh of Genoa, Steve (48) followed in his father's footsteps to care for and provide for his family the best way he could.
Stationed from coast to coast and time spent in Okinawa, Steve was incredibly proud to have served four years with the U.S. Marine Corp, earning medals in Marksmanship – which is no surprise to anyone who knew him.  His time served led him on a path to graduating summa cum laude with a degree in Diesel Power Technology.
In 2016, Steve gave up his career to tend to his family, taking care of his parents and the family farm.  He was always the one to drop everything at a moment's notice to help or care for anyone in need.  He rarely had time for himself yet made every moment matter when spending time with Julie, with whom he shared his life and heart for the last ten years.
Of course, Julie always understood and accepted that Steve's heart was always shared with another.  From a little pup to a fine little lady, nothing filled his heart with more joy than the bond he shared with his "little teckle", Mimi-Girl. In true Steve-fashion, he learned various German words to speak to her in what he called, her native tongue .  You guessed it, she is the cutest little daschund!
Throughout the years, he certainly knew how to raise hell and always found reason to throw a leg over the bike.  This man absolutely bled Yamaha blue and he took every advantage to wake up and ride: cruising from North Carolina to southern Florida, chasing Phish concerts across the Midwest, to random days spent exploring the routes paralleling the Mississippi.  He cherished his escapes on the bike and had a knack for discovering amazing trails and parks along the way.  He always found his way back to them to enjoy a run and take it all in.
When off the bike, he found his passion and sanctuary in running – any nature trail he could find or forest preserve to conquer.  Along the way, he found great strength and inspiration running with the Coon Creek Crawlers, medaling and ribboning in various competitions.
You could always find Steve tending to the garden, walking the fields with Mimi and tinkering in the barn or garage—really any reason to have on talk radio or a tool in his hand and to be outdoors!  He always had something to fix and something to work on, and sometimes Duct Tape would do juuuust fine.
He loved chasing the MotoGP circuit around the globe!  We always knew when it was race weekend because he would cram in every news feed he could before tucking away his phone until the race was aired, sometimes days later.  It was torture!
He had a love for all music but usually found him listening to Phish, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, The Grateful Dead, and always discovering amazing talents highlighted on various NPR radio hours—his favorite artists always blaring while cooking, tinkering on equipment, cleaning the bike or just enjoying a bon fire out back.
He could be quite the little prankster (sorry Russ and Melissa)!  His wry sense of humor and banter always making others laugh an instigating infinite plans "to get him back".  Some of his favorite moments and memories included afternoon suppers with his mom and dad and sister, debating the latest news (with Mimi in his lap of course) or catching up on happenings within the family; running around with his nephews and niece when they were younger and later their own children; countless fishing expeditions and talking the nights away with Russ; spending countless days with Joe and Kim and their two little darlings; and always getting back to where his heart and home were waiting in Julie.
Steve was truly humble with a genuine purpose and hope for everyone around him to find their happiness and live their best lives.  He will be deeply missed by his mother Margaret, his sister Melissa, nephews Justin and Zakery, and his niece Gabrielle; their heartache and pain are immensely shared amongst his dearest friends, Russell, Joe and Kim as well as with his fiancé, Julie, and his entire in-law family.
In remembering Steve, we ask that you pay it forward with kindness, grace and care for your loved ones and neighbors; sponsor a runner's entrance fees in Steve's name so that they may keep competing as Steve wished he could have; and be sure to toast his memory by raising a glass, your drink of choice, and enjoying time with loved ones.
The heartache and devastation of losing such a loving soul far too soon leaves us with our final thoughts that will carry him with us, always…
"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart."
