Shirley J. Kunkel, 78, of Genoa, IL died on September 26, 2025 at NW Medicine- Kishwaukee Hospital.

She was born on December 12, 1946 in Sycamore. She was the daughter of Walter Boettcher.  She married Gary Kunkel on June 22, 1968.

Shirley worked as an operator at the telephone company for many years.  She was a devoted member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Genoa.

Survivors include her husband, Gary; one brother, Fred Boettcher; 5 brother-in-laws, Larry (Dana) Kunkel, Bill (Paula) Kunkel, Bob (Darcia) Kunkel, Jack Kunkel and Barry Charnstrom; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeremy Kunkel; 2 sister-in-laws, Kathy Charnstrom and Sherry Bute and one
brother-in-law, Barry Kunkel.

Her visitation will be on Thursday, October 9th from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St., Genoa, IL.

Her funeral service will be on Friday, October 10th at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 33930 N. State Road, Genoa, IL.  A visitation will also be on Friday from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Church.

A luncheon will follow the service at the Church Hall.
