Obituary

Sharon Sue "Shari" MacFarlane, 79, of Boca Raton, Florida and recently of Genoa, Ilinois, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, with her sister Anne at her side.

Shari was born June 28, 1946, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Lois Maxine (Peterson) Bodeen and Harold Quentin Bodeen. Shari graduated from Mahomet-Seymour High School in 1964.

She married William A. MacFarlane on October 17, 1970, in Bloomington, IL with her Dad officiating. They lived in Chicago, Warrenville and Boca Raton, Florida. She had just moved to the home of her sister Anne and her brother-in-law Peter. Mac, the love of her life, passed away on July 4, 2022. Shari worked in hospital billing until Mac started his own medical consulting company. At that time, she handled all of the firm's administrative and billing needs. They built a very successful consulting business. Shari was passionate about politics and social justice. She and Mac worked diligently on the 2009 Barack Obama Presidential campaign. They met the Obamas and attended a party at the White House. Shari and Mac were members of Boca Raton First United Methodist Church in Boca Raton, FL. Shari was very active in the United Methodist Church's Social Justice Committee. Their work encompassed advocacy for marginalized groups, especially focused on social injustice in the Boca Raton area.

Shari and Mac were the ultimate hosts. Their goal was to make sure that everyone who visited had a good time. Though Shari and Mac had no children, they were very close to their nieces and nephews. They made sure to spend special time with each of them when they visited Illinois.

Remaining to cherish Shari's memory are her Sister Anne (Peter) Durst, Nephews Brad (Sara) Jones, Timothy (Michelle) Jones, and Todd MacFarlane, Nieces Tanya Durst, Alicia (Durin) Caplan, Jennifer (Dusty) Mendez and Shannon (Mason) Byers, Great-nieces and nephews, Quentin Jones, Myles Jones, Pearl Schaeffer, Gray Schaeffer, Morgan (Tyler) Roy, Tony (Kahla) Van Gundy, Brook (Maria) Van Gundy, Jediah Jones, Beau Jones, Dylan Caplan, Declan Caplan, Brittianie (Daniel) Jackson, Heaven Mendez, Brittani (Jimmy) Arellano, Courtani (Daniel) Sanchez and Luke Byers, and 23 great great nieces and nephews.
