Cherished Husband, Father, and Grandfather Salud G. Hernandez, 60, of DeKalb, IL, after a year-long battle with cancer, passed peacefully on July 25, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 23, 1964 in Uriero, Guanajuato, Mexico to Asunción Hernandez and Maria Luz Caltzonci. He married Monica Parra on July 22, 1988 and they settled down to raise their family in Dekalb, IL.

Salud worked for Tempur Sealy International, Inc. in Batavia, IL for 23 years before working closer to home to spend time with his grandchildren.

Salud was a dedicated family man and loved taking vacations back to his home town and the beaches of Florida. He was popular, always willing to lend a hand, and he could make a friend anywhere he went. He always enjoyed the outdoors and learning new skills which lead to becoming a landscaper in his later years.

He is survived by his wife Monica; 3 children: Krystal (Kurtis) Barnes, Salud Alejandro Hernandez, Tania (Daniel II) McGinley; 7 grandchildren: Grayson, Jaxson, Bruce, Theodore, Daniel III, Norah, and newborn Serena; his mother Maria Luz; 3 brothers: Moises (Celia) Hernandez, Sergio Hernandez, Juan Hernandez; 1 sister: Martha (Antonio) Ruiz; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Porfirio Hernandez, father Asunción Hernandez, his sister Audelia Hernandez, his brother Mario Hernandez, and his daughter-in-law Rylee Vaughn.

His visitation will be on Thursday, August 1st, 2024, from 3pm to 5pm at the St. Mary Church, 244 Waterman St., Sycamore, IL.

The funeral mass will begin at 5pm.
