Roger Dean Primm of DeKalb, IL, died on February 1, 2026. The world lost one of the best huggers. Once you received a Roger Hug, you never missed an opportunity to get another one.

He was born on May 21, 1950 to Kenneth and Elsie Primm. He grew up on the family farm in Sycamore, Illinois, with his brothers, Charles and Mark. As an adult, he continued to farm with Charles, growing corn and soybeans as well as raising beef cattle and hogs. Although he worked in the IT department at Ideal Industries and the DeKalb Clinic, he was always a farmer at heart.

Roger spent many years finding new ways to help at Salem Lutheran Church. Ushering, changing lightbulbs, serving on the Executive Committee, and mowing the lawn were just a few of his normal duties, although his daredevil ladder tricks while hanging banners will be remembered the longest.

Roger's Swedish heritage was a source of pride. For his 40th birthday, he traveled to Sweden to visit his relatives. He was excited to find a Swedish class in Rockford and spent many years studying the language so that he could continue to write to his cousins, just as his mother did.

Although generally a quiet man, he would surprise you with a quick and witty one-liner that would get the whole room laughing.

His parents and his brother, Charles, predeceased him.

He is survived by his wife, Joany Primm; his children: Danielle (Paul) DuBois and Brian Primm (Jessica Mejstrik); his step-children: Todd (Jennifer) Watters and Kelly (Chad) Simich; by his grandchildren: Matthew (Casey) Watters; Jacob Watters; Melanie (Jakob) Kelly; Emma Watters; Sydney DuBois; Luke Simich and Raiyne Simich; and the mother of his children, Jacki Minnihan.

The family would like to thank Marie and Mart Chapinski, Jeff and Lauri Paulsen, Joe and Lynn Walkowiak and Steve and Sue Worley for their kindness and generosity over the last few years.

His Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, February 28th from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL.
