Robert "Bob"
Laverne Green
Mar 10, 1935 — Mar 28, 2026
Robert "Bob" LaVerne Green age 91, of Sycamore, IL passed away Saturday March 28, 2026. He was born March 10, 1935 in Aurora, IL, the only son of Ulmer C. Green and Bertha Fitzmaurice (Baugus). On May 1, 1965 Bob married his best friend and partner in life Doris Margaret (Clapper) Green in Somonauk, IL.
Bob was a successful self-taught master auto mechanic and opened Bob's Automatic Transmission in the early 80's and served the Dekalb County area for over 25 years…famously giving his customers a tune on his shop organ while tuning up their vehicle.
Bob was honest, generous and kind to a fault. He prided himself on doing things right and built a reputation of excellence that his customers came to expect.
Bob was also an incredibly gifted musician. He was happiest playing his Hammond B-3 organ at home and in public. For many years Bob was the organist for The Fairway Roller Rink in Sandwich, IL and also The DeKalb Roller Rink in Dekalb, IL and occasionally played in Aurora Roller Rink in Montgomery, IL.
Bob was an avid reader and took a keen interest in Civil War history and particularly enjoyed studying about the life of Abraham Lincoln. He also in recent years worked tirelessly on his own family history collecting bits and pieces of trivia about his ancestors.
Bob enjoyed and appreciated so many things in his life, some of his favorites things were…A nice Sunday drive, going out for a good cup of coffee, just sitting on the porch, seeing a '38 Buick Century or a Marmon V16, a good western movie starring Hop A Long Cassidy, the sound of a Hammond organ, rattling off one liners like " I'm glad you could see me…", a good steak or Culver's fish sandwich, and finishing off that half gallon of vanilla ice cream in the freezer…But most of all he cherished being with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Doris M. Green (Clapper), his children Steve R. Green, Kristine M. (David) Pinion and his only grandchild Elizabeth C. Pinion.
