Robert Eugene Gilbert, 94, of Mt. Morris, IL died on October 19, 2023 at the Oregon Living and Rehab Center.

He was born on August 12, 1929 at Pine Creek, south of the Pines near Polo, IL. to Russell Laverne and Faye Isabelle (Berger) Gilbert.  He married Ruth Elizabeth Spangler on Sept. 24, 2007 in Grand Detour, IL.

Robert worked at Kable Printing (The Plant) in Mt. Morris, retiring in 1993 after his late wife developed cancer.  He was an outdoors man who enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.  He never missed a turkey season and caught one of the largest fish in the river.

Survivors include his wife, Ruthie Gilbert of Genoa, IL; 5 children, Kay (Les) Govig of Dixon, Michael (Sandy) Gilbert of Beaumont, CA; Denise Berg of Rochelle, Warren Gilbert of Polo and Barbie Kowall of Edgewater, Florida; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Sue, Meagan, Wendy, Becky and Michelle; many great grandchildren, Ainsley, Ella, Railey, Carter, Gracie, Liam, Justin, Jordyn, Johnathon, Emma, Briggs, Brock, Chase and Chance; 4 step children, Jody, Lorilee, John and Kendra; and 6 step grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sara Rosemary, Steven, Noah, Ethan and Deliah Rose.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Allene; grandson, Jared; 2 brothers, Russell and James Gilbert; daughter-in-law, Georgie Gilbert and stepson, K.C. Jack.

His visitation will be on Monday, October 30th from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Church of the Brethren, 409 W. Brayton Road, Mt. Morris, IL.  The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM with Rev. Rodney Caldwell officiating.

A luncheon will follow after the service and then a burial will take place after the luncheon at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, IL.
