Obituary

Robert (Tony) Whitney, 84, of Sycamore died on September 16, 2022 at NW Medicine-Kishwaukee Hospital.
Tony was born January 23, 1938 in Sycamore to Gerald and Thelma (Hersum) Whitney.  He married his high school sweetheart, Alice Stroberg on October 1st, 1960, and happily spent what would have been 62 years together.
Tony graduated from Sycamore High School in 1957, taking some Trade School courses, he went to work at Anaconda for 20 years at various occupations. Moving forward, he went on to working and co-owning Knodles Appliance and Service Company, and worked there until retirement. After 6 months of rest, he then went to work for Bethany Animal Hospital, hauling baby pigs until retiring once more. Tony was a lifelong member of Federated Church, in Sycamore, IL, as well as an active member of the North Grove School Association, the Sycamore Elks Club and a member of the Rock-Ford-A's Model A Club.
As anyone would know, Tony was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers, attending many preseason games and collecting much of their memorabilia. He also loved working on his Model A car and enjoyed attending all the Clubs Functions, and driving his grandchildren to School Dances. His favorite pastimes include working on his Model Train Railroad sets, bird watching, and gardening.
Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by all.
He is survived by his wife Alice of Sycamore; Children Toni Lynn (Michael) Carlson, Jim (Kelly Lynn) Whitney, Kelly Jo (Douglas) Roby; Grandchildren Kristin Carlson (Dallas Crenshaw), Krista (Alex) Klein, Kayla Rose Whitney (Liam Berna), Becca Roby, Jake Gile, Great-grandchildren Jeremy, Kiyah, Justin, Henry, Oliver, Sarah and his four-legged grandchild Gracie Mae; his brother John Damon Whitney of Sandwich, IL, sister-in-law Rita Whitney of Decatur, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Thurston and wife Ester, Carlton (Bruzz), Don and wife Phyllis, sister-in-law Elizabeth Whitney, nieces Kathy Ney, and Diane Whitney.
His visitation will be on Saturday, October 1st, 2022, at the Federated Church in Sycamore, IL, beginning at 10:00 am until 12:00 pm.
The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm.
A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church.
Memorials will be divided equally to The Barn on Baseline, the North Grove School Association, and the Federated Church Music Department in care of the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. 60178
