Obituary

Ricky L. Whitmire, 64, of Kingston, IL died April 19, 2024 at the Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, IL.

He was born on March 6, 1960 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas to Joe Whitmire and Carolyn Pasold. He married Virginia Mengedoht on October 31st, 1981.

Rick worked at Greenlee Tool of Genoa, as a CNC machinist, tool and fixture designer and programmer. He retired from WS Hampshire where he worked as a Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor. Rick retired 2 years ago to spend time with his family.

Rick loved fishing, camping, caring for his lawn, playing guitar and mandolin, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed grilling for family and friends, weight lifting, and story-telling.

Rick was an honest, God-honoring man that loved and cared for everyone in his life. He was a true testament to putting God first, and helping others at a moment's notice. He loved taking his yearly camping trip to the cabin with his son, and catching more fish than they could eat. One of his favorite pastimes is sitting on the back porch with a cold glass of iced tea. HIs family holds countless memories of their time together - the family vacations, the shared meals and game nights, the bad dad jokes and campfire stories where his comforting presence will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Whitmire, daughter Karianne Mora (Casey Loring), son Joshua Whitmire (Emily), his grandchildren Jaxon Mora, Kaylynn Mora, Luke Mora, and Annabelle Whitmire, and his beloved dog Piper.

Rick is preceded in death by his mom and dad Joe Whitmire and Carolyn Pasold, his grandparents Ruby and Sidney Clines, his uncle Buford Clines and aunt Martha Reynolds.

His visitation will be on Saturday, April 27th from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St., Genoa, IL.
His funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at the Kingston Cemetery, Kingston, IL.

In lieu of flowers, Rick's family has requested to plant a tree in honor of Rick Whitmire. Rick's favorites were lindenwoods, spruces and arborvitaes.
