Richard Loren Young, 66, of Sycamore died October 1, 2023 surrounded by his wife and children.

Born on July 31, 1957 to Robert and Mary Anne (Harms) Young.

Richard met his wife, Barbara Lynn Boyles, in grade school, and they were married on August 12, 1978.

Richard attended St. Mary's of Sycamore, graduated from Sycamore High School and received a Bachelor's of Engineering from Northern Illinois University.

Early on, Richard had many jobs to support his young 😉 family, but retired from Sundstrand Aerospace after 33 years.

Throughout the years, he could be found at Sycamore Park coaching, reffing, or just enjoying his kids' games.  He was also a Cub Scout leader and volunteer with the Boy Scouts.  His favorite times were table-top gaming day and sitting around the campfire sharing stories with family and friends.

He was a fighter all his life…fought for his family, fought to provide and fought for his health.  Now he can rest and doesn't have to fight any more.

Survived by his wife Barbara, 3 children; Richard David Young (Nicole), Shawn Jeffery Young (Shannon) and Heather Anne (Matt) Allen, 4 grandchildren; Ada Quinn Young, Iain Kerr Young (children of Richard David Young and Amanda Hammon Young), Madison Lynn Allen and Colton James Allen (Heather Anne and Matt Allen).  He is also survived by his mother; Mary Anne (Harms) Young, his siblings; Bob (Carol Ann) Young, Terri Silvius, Steve (Betsy) Young and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Joseph Young.

His visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 5th from 12:00 -1:30 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL.   A service will begin at 1:30 PM at the funeral home.

A private burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, Sycamore, IL.
