Richard "Rick"
E. Petruchuis
Apr 12, 1965 — Jul 5, 2025
Genoa
Richard "Rick" Petruchuis, age 60, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2025.
Rick was born on April 12, 1965, in DeKalb, Illinois, and grew up in Sycamore. He made his home in Genoa, where he raised his family and built a life filled with hard work, laughter, and love.
He was the beloved son of Richard "Dick" Petruchuis and the late Carol Rodefelt, and brother to Sheila Degner and Eric Petruchuis.
On June 26, 1993, Rick married Donna Finnegan in Kirkland, Illinois. Rick would do anything for his family—if Donna needed something from the store, he'd drop everything without a single complaint and go. That quiet devotion defined the way he lived and loved.Together they built a life rooted in love, mutual respect, and endless devotion to their two children, Payton and Derrick, who were his greatest pride.
Rick was a proud member of Laborers' Local 32, working primarily in concrete. Over the years, he rose through the ranks of the union, eventually taking on significant leadership roles that reflected not just his skill, but the respect he earned among his peers. He took immense pride in providing for his family and never missed an opportunity to point out the projects he had worked on—especially to his kids and really, anyone who would listen.
In retirement, Rick found joy in the simple things—riding his bike, playing guitar, learning to paint recreationally, and building a backyard pool and deck for his wife and kids. His life, in every stage, was shaped by love, purpose, and care for others.
Rick is survived by his wife, Donna Petruchuis; daughter, Payton (Christopher Liva) Petruchuis; son, Derrick Petruchuis; his father, Richard; sister, Sheila (Curt) Degner; brother, Eric Petruchuis; sisters-in-law, Cathy Wylde and Margie Finnegan, as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother, Carol, his stepmother, Willie Petruchuis, his nephew, Brett Kubasiak, his father and mother-in-law, William "Bill" Finnegan and Judith Finnegan, and his brothers-in-law, Tom Kubasiak, Daniel 'Boone' Wylde and William "Billy" Finnegan.
Rick's legacy lives on in the memories of those who knew and loved him— the union he helped shape, the family he loved fiercely, the quiet, everyday acts of kindness that defined his life, and in the laughter shared around the pool and deck that he built with his own two hands.
