Raymond J
Gehringer
Mar 6, 1939 — Feb 13, 2026
Raymond J. Gehringer, 86, of rural Sycamore, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home on February 13, 2026.
Ray was born on March 6, 1939 to John and Alice (Hegelshafer) Gehringer on the family farm in Hampshire, Illinois. He later made his home in rural Sycamore where he built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.
After a short stint in the Army, Ray married the love of his life, Janice (Ewert). Together they shared 61 devoted years of marriage filled with partnership, laughter, dedication, and unwavering love. Their marriage was the heart of their family and a beautiful example of commitment.
Ray was a proud and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. Nothing meant more to Ray than his family, and he treasured every moment spent together.
Ray worked hard throughout his life, employed at Anaconda, and M. Warner and Son, before retiring after 31 dedicated years with Schwan's Food Company. He took pride in providing for his family and in the friendships he built along the way.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life — Sunday boating trips, races at local speedways, and taking a yearly trip to Eldora Speedway in Ohio. He also enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, and spending quiet time watching the birds and deer from his chair. Those peaceful moments reflected his appreciation for both excitement and tranquility.
Ray is survived by his wife-Janice; his children- Brenda Holtman of Sycamore, Theresa (David) Bardwell of Oregon, Jason Gehringer of Sycamore; his grandchildren- Marcus Holtman, Zachary Waller, Collin Waller, Brianna Hicks, Deegan Gehringer, Nova Gehringer, and Dexter Gehringer; his great grandchildren; Marcus Jr., Isaiah, and Ruby; his brothers-Fritz Gehringer and Hank (Judy) Gehringer; brother-in-law Jack Green; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Dorothy Jordahl, Albert Gehringer, George Gehringer, Helen Gehringer, Carol Green, and Mary Grossen.
