Phyllis L.
Sandine
Oct 10, 1956 — Jan 27, 2025
Phyllis L. Sandine, 68, beloved mother, sister, aunt and great-aunt, passed away peacefully in her daughter's arms on January 27, 2025 at Aperion Care Center in DeKalb.
She was born in Greenville, TN on October 10, 1956, the oldest of 3 children born to the late Oral "Bill" Sexton and Helen (Harris) Sexton.
Phyllis was a graduate of DeKalb High School, Class of 1974. After graduation she moved to Arizona to follow the man she was in love with, my dad. While living in Arizona she had many job opportunities to choose from: becoming a traveling nanny, a dance instructor for Fred Astaire Studio and much more. Further in life, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves and served from 1990-2000. It was one of many proudest accomplishments.
She was a very loving and caring person with a big heart and had a great sense of humor. She loved all animals and in her younger years, would try to re-home all the animals she brought home to her mother. Phyllis also enjoyed indoor plants, taking walks, reading, traveling back to her hometown in Tennessee, sitting on her deck soaking up the sun, country music and dancing. She was always well-kept and put together with her makeup, nails and hair done even if she had no where to go.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Shirley Hernandez. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, one daughter, Angela Bradley of Sycamore, IL (Bryan Black) of Carpentersville, IL; her brother, Jim Sexton of DeKalb, IL; brother-in-law, Eddie Hernandez of Sycamore, IL; and nieces, Niki (Ricardo) Galindo of Sycamore, IL; Jennifer (Dan) Wojcik of Sycamore, IL; Brittney (Sean) Miller of Sycamore, IL; nephew, Clint Sexton of Mexico and 4 great nieces, Raelyn (Austin) Hodder of Westfield, IN, Neela Galindo of Sycamore, IL; Sydney and Sadie Wojcik of Sycamore, IL; as well as a host of cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank the CNA's and RN's at Aperion Care Center, Compassus Hospice and the NW Medicine Cancer Center for their support and care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials and cards can be sent for her daughter privately to Angela's home address or the - Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
