Phillip D.
Johnson
Apr 1, 1950 — Nov 9, 2025
Phillip D. Johnson, 75, of Sycamore died November 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 1, 1950, in Chicago to Clarence and Erna Johnson. On July 5, 1975, he married Barbara Geyer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves. Always a numbers man, he worked in various accounting roles. He began his career in finance as an accountant and later, transitioned to healthcare finance and worked for a number of hospital systems in the Chicagoland area. He considered himself a faithful servant of Christ and regularly shared his time and expertise with his church communities. His talent with numbers translated to measurement and his more passionate work in the kitchen, where he practiced and perfected delicious recipes of his own and others' design. Phil was an avid cook, baker, and fellowship maker. In retirement, he and Barb sold his pastries, breads, and cookies at the Dekalb and Huntley farmers markets under his business, Baked Freshly.
A beloved husband, father, pop-pop, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many, survivors include his wife Barbara, daughters Erica Johnson and Robin Hayen (Chris), grandsons Leo and Luca Hayen, and brothers Eric Johnson (Judy) and David Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Erna and Clarence Johnson, his brothers Arthur Johnson and John Johnson (Barbara), and his niece Leslie Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 10:00 am- 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, 26555 Brickville Road, Sycamore, IL. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore.
