Penelope "Penny" Gail Swanson, 63, of Genoa died unexpectedly Saturday, August 13, 2022 at her home.
She was born August 18, 1958 in Sycamore to Paul and Barbara (Berg) Swanson.
Penny was a long time employee of Hub Tures and Sons Nursery in Kingston, Illinois. During off seasons, Penny was a teller and receptionist at local banks. Most recently the Resource Bank in Genoa, Illinois. Yet, most notably was the creativity of Penny's work in local craft fairs. She enjoyed crafting almost as much as spending nights out with her friends and fellow Genoa-Kingston Alumni Classmates.
Penny was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her love of her nieces and nephews was apparent to anyone that knew her. She was excited to see photos of her great-grandson and great-nephew and anxiously awaited the opportunity to meet them.
Penny dedicated many years of her life as a caregiver to her mother with diligence and the utmost dignity which was absolutely admirable. Penny remains an eccentric mystery to her family. Keeping us all close in her heart but distanced from daily life.
She is survived by her only son, Michael D. Thompson and daughter-in-law, Rachel of Cortland, IL; 4 grandchildren, Kyla Jamar, Braden Bain Jamar, Kaleb Jamar and McKenna Thompson; her great grandchild, Braylen Bain Jamar; siblings, Crystal (Mike) Gahlbeck of Genoa, Paul Swanson of Genoa and Stanley Jr (Tami) Swanson of Ohio; nieces and nephews, Samantha (Darren) Dieckman, Kaitlyn (Chance) Hostetler, Josh Gahlbeck and Christopher Swanson; great nephew, Dominic Dieckman; aunt Dolores Young and many cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Stanley and her father & mother.
Her memorial service will begin at 5:30 PM on Friday, August 26th at the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main St. in Genoa, IL. with a visitation to follow from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
