Patricia Ann (Gallagher) Carlson
May 24, 1941- July 2, 2024 (83 years of age)
Patricia Ann (Gallagher) Carlson of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away on July 2, 2024, after a brief
illness. Patricia was born on May 24, 1941, the first daughter of Thomas Jordan Gallagher and
Rosella Jane (Conlin) Gallagher at St. Mary Hospital in Dekalb Illinois.
Patricia was raised in rural DeKalb in Afton Township early in her life. She started grade school
(grades k-3) in a one-room schoolhouse (Pooler Grade School), attended St. Mary Grade
School, and graduated from DeKalb High School in 1959. After high school, Patricia graduated
from the Rockford Beauty School. She married Charles "Zeke" Carlson on July 1, 1961. They
had three children, Cathy, Tim, and Mike. Patricia opened the Irish Beauty Shop at her home in
Malta. Their marriage dissolved after the children were out of high school.
Patricia worked at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois, taking classes as she worked, and
graduating in 1989. She also worked at the Newman Center in Dekalb Illinois, and the Salvation
Army in South Elgin, Illinois, and she finished her work career as a CNA.
Patricia's greatest joy was doing crafts and sewing with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Cathy Carlson of Sycamore Illinois, her two sons Tim (Belinda)
Carlson of Sycamore Illinois and Michael (Tara) Carlson of Centerville, Virginia; her siblings, brother Dr. J. Richard (Cliff) Gallagher of St Charles, and her sister Jane (Carmen) Ellen DiGiovine of Naperville; her nine grandchildren Ashley
(Sonny) Mazzullo of Kalispell, Montana, Jenee (Dane Richards) Carlson of Sheboygan,
Wisconsin, Kylei Carlson of Sycamore, Illinois, Dustin Fischer of Sandwich, Illinois, Gracie
Fischer of Tucson, Arizona, Erin Carlson, Daniel Carlson, Ryan Carlson, and Aidan Carlson all
of Centerville, Virginia; one great-grandson, Londo Richards of Sheboygan,
Wisconsin. She left behind numerous nieces, nephews and her special friend
Kelly Francis of Sycamore.
She was preceded in death by her brother Thomas (Debbie) Jordan Gallaher of Sycamore,
Illinois, sister-in-law Debbie (Jordan) Gallagher of Sycamore, Illinois, brother-in-law Carmen
(Jane) DiGiovine of Naperville, Illinois, her brother-in-law Richard Carlson of DeKalb, Illinois,
her sister-in-law Pat Carlson of DeKalb, Illinois, her brother-in-law Bill (Mary) Carlson of
Pecatonica, Illinois, her sister-in-law Rita Whitney of Decatur Illinois, her brother-in-law Carlton
"Bruz" Whitney of Algonquin, Illinois, her niece Diane Whitney of Algonquin, Illinois and her
husbands Charles "Zeke" Carlson of Sycamore and Edward Costello of South Elgin, Illinois.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic
Church, 302 Fisk Ave, DeKalb Il, 60115. A luncheon will follow the service.
Memorials in her name can be mailed to the Butala Funeral Home,1405 DeKalb Ave, Sycamore,
Il., 60178. Memorials will be used to support Mental Health non-profits in DeKalb County.
