Patricia "Pat" Weinert (1938-2024)

Patricia "Pat" Weinert passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at DeKalb County Nursing Home. She was 85 years old.

Born Patricia Crosby on November 13, 1938, in St. Charles, IL, to James and Dorothy Crosby, Pat was a graduate of Sycamore High School (class of '56). She embarked on a new chapter in Denver, Colorado, pursuing an education in accounting.  It was there that she would meet John, who was serving in the Air Force.  Their early courtship seemed to be filled with adventure, as several stories have been told about those days, including one several have heard about John falling down a hill during their first date. Their adventures culminated in their marriage on June 14, 1958.

Pat's life journey took her across the country, from Louisville to Nashville, Dallas to Oakland, and even to Saudi Arabia, supporting John's career with unwavering love and resilience. While John worked overseas, Pat found solace and companionship with her daughter Lori's family, using this time to pass down her love for late-night murder mysteries to her granddaughter Kaitlyn.

Upon returning to Sycamore, Pat and John, together with Lori and her husband Jim, poured their hearts into The Uptown, a local restaurant that became a community hub. Pat's social nature and endeared her to many, especially the surrounding business owners.  Pat would spend most mornings at The Uptown and was known for walking herself back home every afternoon that the weather allowed.

Grandma Pat held a special place in the hearts of her grandchildren. Her quirky songs, nonsensical rhymes, and playful games brought joy and laughter to their lives, even if they usually couldn't make sense of her humor.

The recent loss of John left a void in Pat's life, and her family finds comfort knowing they are now reunited, their love transcending the boundaries of this world.

Survivors include daughters Lori Ireton (husband Jim) and Maryann Weinert; grandchildren Matt Ireton (wife Lauren), Kate Lambert (husband Matt), and Taylour Browning; and great-grandchildren Maddie and Lu Ireton, Mace and Meyer Lambert, and Falyn Browning and Carter Kunkel and siblings Mary Schutter, David Crosby (wife Nancy), Sharon O'Brien (husband John), Dorothy Jane Butts (husband John), sister-in-law Geri Baker. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family who will forever cherish her memory.

Pat is preceded in death by John, her parents, siblings Susan McNew, James Crosby, Jr., and Virginia (Ginger) Johnson.

A visitation honoring both John and Pat will be held at Butala Funeral Home on Saturday, November 9, from 9-10 a.m., followed by Mass at St. Mary's, 244 Waterman St.,in Sycamore at 10:30 a.m. A luncheon for the family will follow the burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in her honor, sent to Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave, Sycamore, IL. 60178 with memorial to be determined by the family at a later date.
