Norma Lou Andres

Norma Lou Andres, age 100, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 18, at her home at The Grand Victorian surrounded by love. Born December 6, 1924, in Sycamore, she was the daughter of Gail and Laurel Townsend Moyers. Norma graduated from Sycamore High School in 1942. At 18, she and her best friend, Doris Swanson Slater, moved to Chicago to work for the IRS.

On March 1,1947 she married Howard G. Andres in Sycamore, IL. Norma grew up in the Mayfield Congregational Church and became a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in 1947. She and Howard farmed in Mayfield Township for 57 years, actively participating in the DeKalb County Farm Bureau and traveling extensively throughout the world with other fellow members. Norma was also a founding member of the Board of Trustees for the DeKalb Retirement Center (Oak Crest). This commitment showcased her life of being able to give back to the community she cherished.

A devoted wife and mother, Norma dedicated her life to creating a warm and nurturing home for her husband, and their three children. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends and fostering a loving environment.  Her homemade chocolate chip cookies were legendary, and her holiday gatherings were eagerly anticipated by family and friends alike. Norma's love for playing bridge and other card games brought together lifelong friends. Through her love of bridge and other card games Norma built a vibrant circle of friends, sharing memorable hours filled with laughter, support, and countless memories with her.

Norma is survived by her children Paula (Beatty) McCaleb of Atlanta and Russell (Judy) of Cherry Valley; three grandchildren Stephanie (Brad) Wascher, Mark (Sarah Rehn) Andres, and JR (Lisa Blackmer) Andres; three step grandchildren Shawn (Sara) Bawluski, Brad Bawluski, Scott (Rebecca) Bawluski; two great granddaughters Grace and Isabelle Andres, & four step grandchildren Kate and Charlotte Bawluski and Emily and Max Bawluki; nephews David (Kathy) Ruud, Erik (Kaley) Ruud, Preston Ruud, Michael Austin, Dane Norstrom, and nieces Laurie (John) Proctor, Kathy Marquez, Cheyenne Norstrom, and Victoria Ruud; and special friends, LaVerna Johnson, Kay Blake, Rebecca Steczo, and Susie Peterson.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gail and Laurel Moyers: her husband, Howard Andres, son, Steven Andres, two sisters Helen Ruud and Nancy Valle, and a nephew Jesse Austin.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Mayfield Congregational Church 28405 Church Rd. Sycamore, IL 60178, with burial in the Mayfield Cemetery to follow.  The family will gather at the church at 10:00 AM for those wishing to pay their respects.
