Nicholas J. "Nick" Haselton

(January 18, 1974 – August 17, 2024)

Nicholas James Haselton, 50, of DeKalb, IL, passed away unexpectedly on August 17, 2024, at home.  He was born in Rochelle, IL, to James (Jim) and Becky (Headon) Haselton.

Nick graduated from DeKalb High School in 1992.  He pursued an Information Systems education program at Northern Illinois University for three years, then became an EMT and worked in the Emergency Department at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb for several years.  He then began his lifelong career in information systems, working first for a printing company, then making his final career move to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL, where he worked for twenty years as a Network Engineer.

Nick was cherished by his family and friends as a kind, caring, and always helpful companion.  He loved to play on-line games and most evenings, after work, you would find him glued to his computer screen.  His other passion was vehicles – mostly trucks – of which he had owned many.  He was especially proud of his 1961 GMC Carryall, a large vehicle which was the forerunner of the largest GMC SUVs.  He lavished considerable time and effort bringing the old vehicle back to sparkling, like-new condition.  For several years he also enjoyed off-roading with his Jeep Rubicon, which often ended weekend days covered in mud!

Nick is survived by his parents, an uncle, John Haselton of Rochelle, and an aunt, Lisa DeGrande of Hammond, LA.  He also leaves behind a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews and their families.

Cremation care provided by Butala Funeral Home in Sycamore, IL.

A celebration of life is being planned for a future date.
