Neal S. Moen, 71, of Sycamore died Sunday, April 3, 2022, at his home, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born March 20, 1951, in Sycamore to William and Pauline (Dusch) Moen.

He was a veteran of the United States Marines from 1970-1973, then he served in the Army National Guard from 1988-1989.

Neal lived life with passion and authenticity. He was active with many hobbies including restoration of cars, collecting stamps, coins, and militaria, was a HAM radio operator, and loved animals.  He especially loved his cats, Puppy and Shadow.

He worked as a welder and pipe fitter for many years and was a member of the Pipe Fitters Union.

Survivors include his daughter, Beth (Wes) Miller; 2 grandchildren, Riley (17) and Ty (14); his brother, Greg (Margaret) Moen; 2 nephews, Eric and Ryne Moen; and 2 nieces, Torie and Liza Moen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Billy Moen, Jr.

Neal's visitation will be Thursday, April 7, 2022, from 4-6pm at the Butala Funeral Home in Sycamore.  A memorial service will begin at 6pm with Reverend Preston Fields officiating.  Military honors will follow.

A private burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sycamore VFW or the Barn on Baseline Animal Shelter, in care of Butala Funeral Homes and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
