Millie McCabe, 89, of DeKalb, died Monday, September 20, 2021, at Northwestern Medicine-Kishwaukee Hospital.
She was born October, 24, 1931, in Long Island, NY. The daughter of William and Mary (Hazelton) Jungling.
Millie graduated from Senn High School, in Chicago, in 1949. She worked at Kishwaukee Hospital for 40 years as the switchboard operator.
She started her 60 year career as an operator at DeKalb-Ogle Phone Company and finished with her career as "The Voice of Kishwaukee Hospital." She also worked part time as an EMT on Smith Ambulance and Ridge Ambulance.
Millie loved gardening and beautiful flowers, especially daisies.
She was a member of St. Mary Church in DeKalb, for many years.
The family is grateful for the staff at Kishwaukee Hospital for their care and compassion that was shown to Millie.
Survivors include her children, Linda (Rick) Potempa, Patty Smith, and Terry McCabe (Nancy Flowers); 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Arthur Crabtree.
Her visitation will be Saturday, September 25, from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
