Melvin H. Stubinger, age 104, of DeKalb, formerly of East Dundee and North Ft. Meyers, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2021.   He was born to Ida Felke and Walter Stubinger on April 27, 1917.  He attended Lake View High School in Chicago, Illinois.

He married the late Lorraine Hensen on May 10, 1941.  They lived in Chicago for a number of years before moving the family to Lake in The Hills and eventually settling in East Dundee, where Melvin served as an electrical inspector.  Melvin was a Chicago Fireman for over 20 years.  He was also a member of the IBEW working for Mohawk Electric.  He had many stories of his days at the firehouse and also of the electrical work he did on the displays for the Field Museum.  Melvin was a member of the Masons and the Moose.

Melvin loved to travel and visited numerous places in North America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Africa.  One of his greatest passions was golfing.  He began at the age of 10 as a caddy and was a lifelong golfer, hanging up the clubs at the age of 99, having achieved five hole-in-one's in his lifetime., the last being on his 90 ^th birthday.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lorraine; a daughter, Carol; and siblings Lillian Crigley and Walter Stubinger.  He is survived by his son John (Pam) Stubinger of Sycamore, grandchildren Tracey Busby of Malta, Trisha (Steve) Knych of St. Charles, Tim (Ashley) Stubinger of DeKalb, great grandchildren Zoey, Samuel and Abigail Knych, Jennifer Busby , Lt. John (Karin) Busby.

The family will receive friends at Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, October 16th.  A private service will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery in Norridge at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Melvin's memory to Barb City Manor.
