Mary C.
Gogo-Wilson
Feb 14, 1950 — Sep 24, 2024
DeKalb
Mary C. Gogo-Wilson of DeKalb IL passed away quietly at home after 2 decades of fighting. She was 74 years old.
Mary was born an artist with a natural gift for lines and gestures, color and space, the absurd and the original. Her satire painting series of "rats personified" was perhaps the highlight of her art career, capturing the pretense and humor of the human experience. She studied for her Masters at the Art Institute of Chicago, and taught college classes before buying the Hillside Restaurant which she caressed for 35 years with her husband Gavin and three boys Jason, Holden and Adam.
Mary had a way of making every customer feel like they were her favorite and she never failed to follow through in work and in life. Starting from nothing, she was proud of what she built and set an example for her family. You could always find your favorite treat in her cupboard and she missed nothing.
Her sons were her greatest works of art if you ever asked her. A passionate and gifted gardener, Mary "painted" her home and business with wild and artistic flowers and plants.
She is survived by her husband Gavin, sons Jason Gogo, Holden Wilson (Alessandra) Adam Wilson (Morgan) sister Marilynne Voris, brother Samuel (Linda) and grandchildren William Gogo, Samuel Gogo, Thea Wilson, who were the light of her life.
The immediate family will be gathering for a private memorial in lieu of services.
