Mary C. Evers

January 23, 1937 – January 15, 2022

Mary C. Evers, 84, of Genoa died Saturday, January 15, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 23, 1937, in DeKalb at St. Mary's Hospital to Frank and Vera (Johnson) Merriman.  She married Ronald W. Evers on June 30, 1956.

Mary graduated from Genoa-Kingston High School in 1955.  She attended Marquette in Wisconsin and Northern Illinois University, graduating with a BSE degree in 1972 and also obtained her master's degree.  She taught second and third grades in the Sycamore School District.  She retired from teaching in 1993.

Survivors include her children, Lynn Evers (Mike Grotheer), Joseph (Jackie) Evers, Anne Evers Mishler, Patrick (Heather) Evers, and Michael (Rhonda) Evers; 4 grandchildren, Liz (JJ) Lambert, Andy (Luana) Evers, Matt (Megan) Evers, and Zach Botts; great grandson, Braylen Botts; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron Evers; son, James Evers; sister, Judy Kunkel; and brothers, Robert and Joseph Merriman.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Visiting Angels for their care and compassion to Mary and her family.

Her visitation will be on Thursday, January 20, from 10:00am – 11:00am at the Slater-Butala Funeral Home in Genoa.

Her funeral mass will begin at 11:30am on Thursday at St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 340 S. Stott St., in Genoa, IL 60135, with Father Zdwislaw Francis Wawryszuk officiating.  Burial will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery.  With a luncheon to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Genoa-Kingston School District in care of the Slater-Butala Funeral Home, 132 W. Main, Genoa, IL 60135.
