Obituary

Mario Jimenez, 83, of Genoa, IL, passed away on November 20, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 11, 1942, in Laredo, TX, to Trinidad and Julia (Martinez) Jimenez. Mario was the eldest of nine children and worked hard from a young age to help support and provide for his family. His strong work ethic and dedication carried him through his early years as he traveled and worked throughout several western states.

In 1967, he moved to Chicago, IL, where he met the love of his life, Margie Neira — his "tesoro," as he lovingly called her. They were married on October 5, 1968. One of Mario and Margie's most cherished memories was the night they met at a dance hall in Chicago. He often said he knew from that very moment that she was his 'treasure"( tesoro)They danced together that night — and for the next 57 years.

Mario was a proud Union Laborer for 34 years and truly loved his work.

Outside of work, Mario enjoyed many passions. He was an avid gardener who could spend hours tending to his flowers. He loved playing his guitar, listening to Tejano & Norteños music, drawing, and dancing. Mario was also a devoted member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Genoa.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margie; his children, Jennifer Jimenez and Robert Jimenez, both of Genoa; and his grandchildren, Andrew D. Arias, Olivia M. Arias, Robert M. Jimenez, and Nathan J. Jimenez, all of Genoa. He is also survived by many extended family members.
