Obituary

Mario J. Gumino, 59, of Kingston, IL, went to be with Jesus, Monday, December 2, 2019 at Northwestern Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb, IL.

He was born January 8, 1960 in Chicago to Casimir and Marie (Cervi) Gumino. He married Karen S. Kern on May 14, 1983 in Franklin Park, IL. They celebrated their 36th anniversary in 2019 and loved traveling together and visiting Lions all over the state of Illinois and internationally. Mario was a district governor in 2013-2014 for District 1-J. Karen and Mario loved serving with their council and have many happy memories from the convention in Germany. They have made many friends through Lions and are thankful for the memories and friendships.

Mario began his career with the Lions of Illinois Foundation in Oak Park as their accounts manager in 1980 after graduating from Triton College. He has been with the Lions of Illinois Foundation his entire career and was appointed to the position of Executive Director of the Foundation in 2015 and has faithfully served the Lions of the state of Illinois until the time of his death. He was passionate about Lions and went to work everyday knowing he was helping people in need and that gave him great joy. Mario was also a part-time real estate agent/broker for ERA Realtors, Coldwell Banker, and Weichert/Signature Realtors the years prior to becoming the executive director. He enjoyed helping people find homes and made many friends along the way.

He was a wonderful provider for his family and deeply loved his wife, Karen, and son, Brian. They enjoyed many great vacations together and enjoyed Disney cruises. The most memorable were trips to Forsyth, MO, with family and friends and fishing for rainbow trout on Lake Taneycomo year after year. He loved being on the water in his boat or sitting on the porch of the cabin staring out at the lake and watching the sun set. Mario was an active member at CrossWind Community Church in Genoa, IL, where he regularly attended with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Karen (Kern) Gumino, and his son Brian, his mother Marie  and his, brothers Anthony and Joseph.

He was preceded in death by his father Casmir Gumino. Mario was also surrounded by his loving family including Elaine, Ron (deceased 11-27-19) Kern, Jean and Jim Macowiak (Heather, Michele), and Patti and Jim Swan (Stevie [Lenny], Shawn, Ronnie, Zack [Mary], Becky).

Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019 from 2:00-5:00 PM at CrossWind Community Church, 13100 Cherry Road, Genoa, IL, 60135.

A Celebration of Life service will begin at 5:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Troy Bristow officiating.

This verse signifies how Mario lived his life and how much he loved Jesus:

1 Peter 4:10-11 (NLT)

10 God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 11 Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
