Obituary

Marilyn Jean Karl, 85, died on July 14, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born September 17, 1939, in Aurora to parents Harold and Erma (Westphall) Metzger.

Attended Aurora schools graduating from East Aurora High in 1958.  She later attended Waubonsee College.  Employed at Western Electric, St. Charles Park District and J.C. Penney's over the years.

Married William L. Karl, Jr. on February 22, 1969, at the Claim Street Baptist Church in Aurora.

Marilyn's life work was devoted to her family and home.  She was a girl scout leader and faithfully served many years as the "sunshine card lady" for the Northern Illinois Steam Power Club.  She was very talented creating many unique crafts, stitchery pieces and sewing clothes for her children.  She loved to travel and had many wonderful memories of vacations at the lake in Wisconsin and auto trips with friends and family.

Predeceased by her parents; brother, Rich Metzger, and grandparents.

Marilyn is survived by her husband; son, Eric John (Valerie Cranden) Karl; grandchildren, Adam John and Ella Grace Karl; daughter, Konni Kay (Carlos) Torrente; grandchildren, Sydney (RJ) Herra and Nicole Kay Torrente; sister-in-law, Bonnie Metzger; brother-in-law, Albert (Debby) Karl; sister-in-law, Katharine Weaver; nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

The Karl family would like to thank Monique for her loving care of Marilyn this past year and to the Rochelle Unity Hospice for their compassionate care.

Her visitation will be on Monday, July 21st from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL.   Her funeral service will be on Tuesday,  July 22nd at 11:00 AM at at the Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made to her family to be determined at a later date.
