Obituary

Marilou Smith of DeKalb passed away December 10, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Marilou was born on December 23, 1932, at home in rural Elm Grove, Illinois to Carrie (Wineburner) Hundt and John Hundt. She grew up attending school in Pekin, Illinois, graduating from Pekin High School in 1950.

Marilou married Bobbie Smith on June 23, 1957. They settled in Aurora, Illinois where they welcomed their first three children, Tracy, Jana and Lara. In 1963 the Smith family moved to DeKalb, Illinois and over the next few years, they welcomed four more children (twins) Kevin & Kelly, Craig and Kyle.

Marilou worked at Wurlitzer Company in DeKalb for some time before continuing her career with the American National Bank all while raising seven children.

She enjoyed spending time with each of her kids through all their many activities growing up and later continued to follow her grandchildren's activities and achievements. Marilou extended her love to many people including so many friends of her children and grandchildren. She held a special place in her heart for best friend Jeanie Scoughton along with her loving neighbors Jay, Tracy, Rachel, Drew and Hannah Paszotta.

Marilou is survived by her son Tracy (Karen) Smith, grandchildren Christopher, Michael (Colby) and Allison Smith, Kendall (Justin) Tate and Kayla (Caleb) Oehlberg; daughter Jana (David) Nowak, granddaughter Kaylyn (Ben) Brooks; daughter Lara Smith, son Kevin Smith (Samantha Gerace), daughter Kelly (Bradley) Brown, grandchildren Riley, Haley and Owen Brown; son Craig (Angela) Smith, grandchildren Jacob Smith (Madalyn Nowers) and Jessica Smith; and son Kyle Smith. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Landen and Brysen Smith, Rowan Smith, Collins Tate, Callie Brooks and Mack Smith; a sister Hazel Nichols; niece Barbara (Steven) Johnson, great nieces Stephanie Anthony, Alexandria Orson, and great nephew Morgan Johnson; sister-in-law Donna Ferguson; niece Valerie Stewart Hildebrand, great nieces Sterling and Lucie Stewart; nephew Jay Ferguson, great nephew George Ferguson along with several cousins in the Pekin, Illinois area.

Marilou was preceded in death by her husband Bobbie, her parents John and Carrie Hundt; father and mother-in-law Ebert D. and Robilee Smith; brother Ralph Hundt; sister's Irene Hundt and Merla (Dick) McCloud and niece JoAnn McCloud.

Special thanks to Dr. Asad Shah and Dr. Paul Nguyen for their amazing care and personal commitment to the Smith Family for many years. Also special thanks to Mike and Janice Butala for their 35+ years of love and friendship.

Visitation will be from 10am to 12pm, Tuesday December 16th, 2025, at Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, Illinois. Funeral service will follow at 12pm, Pastor Mark Geisler officiating with burial at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb, Illinois.
