Margery A.
Stroud
Jun 3, 1938 — Jun 14, 2025
Margery A. Stroud
We celebrate the life of Margery and the impact that she made on her family, friends and countless children, as she was welcomed into heaven on Saturday June 14, 2025; having lived a life of dedication, service and adventure.
Born June 3, 1938 to Lawrence F. Worley and Faith E. Worley (Easton) of Genoa, IL, Margery was the eldest sister to David L. Worley and a baby sister who was lost at birth. Having the privilege of growing up on the farm, Margery was no stranger to the hard work necessary to keeping the family's chicken farm running. Going to school in the Genoa-Kingston school system, Margery would graduate in the class of 1956, and would later attend Northern Illinois University, where she would receive her degree as an elementary school teacher.
In 1960 Margery began her professional career as a teacher for the Harriet Gifford Elementary School in Elgin, IL. There she would go on to teach for 33 years, retiring in 1993. Choosing to live a life through firsthand experience, she endeavored to transfer this passion for life to generations of fourth grade children. During her time in-between school years, Margery chose to explore the World through travel, often with her lifelong friends June Yates and Vera Nelson. Her family would constantly be surprised when she would tell stories of safaris in Africa, treks to the Galapagos, and rides on elephants in Thailand. She would go on to visit every continent, with the exception of Antarctica.
As a lifelong congregant of the Genoa First United Methodist Church, she and her parents worshipped there, and on December 27, 1975 she was married to her late husband Robert L. Stroud. Margery was a step-mother to Jennifer (William) Goran and Brian Stroud, grandmother to David, Jacob, and Daniel Goran, an aunt to Christy (Jesse) Torres, and Joel (Jeanna) Worley, and a great-aunt to Kaylyn Middleton, Alli Torres, Sophia, Benjamin, Avi, Jonathan, Nadia, Beatrix and Hazel Worley.
