Leona L. Heimsoth, 98, of South Elgin, Illinois, formerly of Genoa, Illinois, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2022.
Lee was born on November 7, 1924 in Arlington Heights, Illinois. to Henry and Alma Deeke and grew up on the family farm on Algonquin Road. She attended the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, her whole life. Leona graduated from Arlington Heights High School, worked downtown Chicago in banking, and met Leroy Hattendorf at a dance at the Elk Grove Inn. They married in 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Together they had three sons, Ronald W., Roy Scott, and Leonard L.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Hattendorf who went home in 1978, and her son Roy Scott Hattendorf in 2014.
Leona is survived by her sons, Ron Hattendorf, Len (Lora) Hattendorf, and her daughter-in-law, Gail (Roy Scott) Hattendorf. Her grandsons include Jim Hattendorf, Tim (Sandy) Hattendorf, Sean Hattendorf, Luke Hattendorf, and Matt Hattendorf. Leona's great-grandchildren are Kody (Jake Farner) Hattendorf, Jake Hattendorf, Trevor Hattendorf, Cynthia Hattendorf, Hayden Henderson, and Hunter Henderson. Her twin great-great-grandchildren are Harlow and Waylan Hattendorf Farner.
Leona married Willard E. Heimsoth in 1990 and enjoyed nearly twenty years together. They spent summers in Genoa visiting family and friends and attending Trinity Lutheran Church. Wintering in Ellenton, Florida, Lee and Will actively participated in their Terra Siesta community, where they made many lifetime friends. In 2009 Lee was preceded in death by her second husband, Will.
Leona is survived by her sister, Adeline Mager, 94, of Lombard, Illinois. Leona is also survived by loving nieces, a nephew, and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Survivors also include her Heimsoth family stepchildren and their spouses: Dianne (Raymond) Cieslak, Thomas (Karen) Heimsoth, Gerald (Melinda) Heimsoth, and Richard (Mimi) Heimsoth. Step-grandchildren will miss her as well, including, Kari (Mark) Ratkowski, Laura Cieslak, Sarah (William Buckholz) Heimsoth, Emily (Clint Walls) Heimsoth, Kristin (Andrew Clinton) Heimsoth, Anne Heimsoth, Lauren (Robert Tovey) Heimsoth, William (Emily) Heimsoth, James Heimsoth, Brandon Heimsoth, Lindsay Heimsoth, and Madison Heimsoth. Step great-grandchildren are Rebecca Ratkowski and Elizabeth Buckholz. She was greatly loved and adored by all.
A visitation will be at 10:00 am with a memorial service following at 11:00 am, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 33930 N State Rd, Genoa, IL 60135 on March 4th, 2023. Following the memorial service will be a luncheon at the church.
Memorials may be gifted to her faithful church, Trinity Lutheran in Genoa, where she was an active member.
Leona was a wonderful lady with great patience, and her love for the Lord was displayed in her kindness and actions. She was a beautifully faithful woman who loved her church, her family, and her many friends.
