He was born on April 2, 1949 in Mt. Pleasant, IA to Norman O. and Virginia (Page) Hansen.  He married Peggy Lynn Zajichek on August 8, 1970 in Davenport, IA.

Larry was a teacher and a coach. He coached football, baseball and women's basketball at St. Edward High School in Elgin, Beachwood High School in Georgia- (where he took his women's basketball team to the State playoffs) and Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst.

Larry worked as a foreman at Hoffer Plastics in South Elgin for over 26 years and at the Fox Valley Fire and Safety in Elgin, where he retired after 17 years of service.

Larry was a faithful and active member of the St. Catherine Church of Genoa, where he volunteered  much of his time.  He was a loving husband and father who enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events.  During his spare time, he loved bird hunting with his hunting dogs all over the United States.  He also enjoyed curbside scrapping and then recycling various items he collected.  His joy was keeping a beautiful garden for all to admire.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Peggy; son, Brian (Debra) Hansen; daughter, Laura (John) Nordstrom; grandchildren, Katelyn and Jacob Hansen and Sophie and Jack Nordstrom; great-grandson, Bryson Olson; four siblings, Debbie (Mike) Hansen-Funk, Claire (Russ) Patterson, Norm (Linda) Hansen and Steve (Susan) Hansen; brother-in-law, Dan (Michelle) Zajichek; sister-in-law, Susan (Richard) Zajichek; and nieces and nephews, Nick, Katie, Maggie, Austin, Sarah Beth, Megan, Erin, Maria, Cole, Adam, Alex and Austin.

His visitation will be on Saturday, April 22 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the St. Catherine of Genoa Church,  340 S. Stott St., Genoa, IL.

His funeral mass will begin at 12:00 PM with Fr. William Etheredge officiating.  Burial will be private.

All are invited to a  luncheon after the mass in the church hall.
