Obituary

LaVern "Vern" D. Barry, 88, of Genoa died January 22, 2022 at Journey Care Hospice in Barrington, IL.
He was born on August 18, 1933 in Sycamore to Earl and Martha (Herrmann) Barry.  He married Johanne "Jo" Hansen on Sept. 28, 1957 in Genoa. Vern was a veteran of the U.S. AirForce and the Navy, serving in the Korean Conflict.
Vern owned and operated the Mobil gas station in Genoa for 30 years. After retirement he drove for TransVac (Voluntary Action Center) for 10 years. He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Florida for vacation time.  He loved to fly and owned his own plane.  He and Jo would fly to Wisconsin to go boating and fishing.
Vern also enjoyed working on cars.  He would service his friend's cars in his spare time.  He was always willing to help others.
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa Barry; great grandchildren, Ashlee and Tyler; brother, Jim (Ruth) Barry; sister, Sandy Baskins; sister-in-law, Dorothy Barry; several nieces and nephews, and his dog buddies- Dutch and Beau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2005; son, Michael Barry; granddaughter, Kristina Barry; 2 brothers, Keith and Bill Barry; and 2 sisters, Mary Freeman and Johanne Barry.
His memorial visitation will be on Monday, February 7 th from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Slater-Butala Funeral Home of Genoa.  There will be a military service starting at 6:45 PM.
Burial will be at the Genoa Cemetery at a later date.
