Kathryn R. (Kathy) Van Der Karr, 72, passed away Sunday July 25, 2021 at the Park Strathmoor nursing facility in Rockford, IL. She had spent the last six months courageously battling Covid 19, and other health issues related to Covid-19.

Kathy was born on May 27, 1949 in Elgin, IL to Robert and Betty (Meuser) Hopp. She was married on April 26, 1969 to Richard J. Van Der Karr. They were married for 52 years.

She was a graduate of Larkin High School, attended Elgin Community College and worked as office manager for a plastics manufacturing company in Elgin for 38 years.

Kathy and Rick lived in Plato Center for 34 years before building a new home in Sycamore in 2020.

Kathy was a collector of Royal Copenhagen plates, pink Depression glass and Santa's. She also belonged to golf and bowling leagues for many years. She loved ocean cruises and travel and was known to have visited Las Vegas on more than one occasion. She also loved shopping and gave much thought in finding the perfect gifts for family and friends.  Kathy made friends with everyone she met.

Kathy also liked to side by side in Northern Wisconsin. Her greatest joy, besides her family, was the lake house and boating at Lake Carroll.

Survivors include her husband Richard (Rick) Van Der Karr; sons, Jason R. Van Der Karr and Michael R. Van Der Karr: three grandchildren; Nicholas R. Van Der Karr, Collin M. Van Der Karr, and Riley M. Van Der Karr; two sisters, Deborah S. (Jack) Krueger and Janice K. (the late Richard) Gumprecht; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends including her dearest and best friends Char Banwart and Carla McGuire.

She was preceded in death by her parents: her sister, Mary Ann Calhoon in 2017, and her brother-in-law, Richard Gumprecht in 2020.

A visitation will be held from 10:00- 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 10, 2021 at the Living Lord Lutheran Church, 1044 Congress Dr., Bartlett, IL. 60103.  A memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Sue Allen officiating.
