Judith Diane Sallberg, 79, of Sycamore/DeKalb passed away peacefully into the arms of her Savior surrounded by her family on August 27, 2023 at the OakCrest Retirement Center.

She was born January 19, 1944 in Chicago, to Charles and Laverne (Seibt) Banks.  Judy was united in marriage 56 years ago to Larry Sallberg on March 18, 1967.

Judy graduated from NIU in 1966 with her Bachelor's degree in Education and taught 3rd grade in Des Plaines, IL.  She enjoyed being around children. She was a camp counselor for years at the Lake Geneva Youth Camp where she had started as a camper herself in 1954. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at her first camp experience.

As a devout Christian woman, Judy went on mission trips to the Philippines and Russia, ministering in vocal song and dressing as a Clown, named "Morning Glory".  She had written personal volumes of biblical studies.  Judy kept her mind active by doing puzzles and volunteered her time with hospice, even knitting hats to bring joy to the patients.

Survivors include her husband, Larry; two daughters, Sherry Kay (Fred) Torres and Valerie Cranden (Eric Karl);  4 grandchildren, Samantha (Dalton) Groce, Grace Torres, Kayla Cranden and Kyle Cranden; sister, Dawn (John) Kurtz; brother, Dr. David (Rhonda) Banks; her nieces, 2 great nieces, one great nephew and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and nephew, Matthew Blair Banks.

Her visitation will be on Thursday,  Aug. 31 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, 2325 N. First St., DeKalb, IL.

The funeral service will begin at 7:00 pm with Rev. Brandon Arneson officiating.  A private burial will take place on Friday at the Elmwood Cemetery.

Knowing her love of custard, the family decided to honor her by providing a complimentary dish of frozen custard as you leave the Church.  Mom was always part of the "Ollie's team" and delivered calendars to area businesses and hotels over the years.  Mom always loved correcting people as they would call it ice cream.  She would tell them with a great big grin on her face-  "It is custard, darn it!"
