John Weinert passed away at DeKalb County Nursing Home on Friday, June 14, 2024.

John was born in Philadelphia, PA, on September 27, 1939.  He spent his entire childhood in Philly with his mother Blanche and sister Geri, both of whom he adored.  He enrolled in the Air Force at age 17 and proudly served from 1957 – 1961. He met Patricia Crosby in Colorado and later they were married in Sycamore, IL, on June 14, 1958.  Together, they were married for 66 years.

John worked for Anaconda Wire and Cable Company, and its preceding owners, for a majority of his professional career.  He worked in inventory management and his career took him and Pat around the country to various cities including Louisville, KY, Nashville, TN, Dallas, TX, Oakland, CA and to their favorite city of all, Sycamore, IL.  After Anaconda closed, John was hired as an inventory consultant for Saudi Wire in Saudi Arabia.  John spent 3 years working in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  Interestingly, he worked for the same manager in Saudi that he had worked for in Sycamore.

After returning from Saudi Arabia, John and Pat along with their son-in-law and daughter, Jim and Lori Ireton, purchased The Uptown, an iconic bar and grill in downtown Sycamore.  Together, they ran The Uptown for twelve years, making countless friends and memories along the way.  Most weekday afternoons John could be found behind the bar.  If he wasn't serving the afternoon regulars, he was redoing inventory or re-cleaning glasses – neither of which could ever be done frequently or well enough in his book!

John loved to golf.  He loved college sports, the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Eagles.  And, despite all the reasons not to, he was an avid Bears fan, a trait he somehow passed down to his daughters.

His survivors included wife Pat, sister Geri, daughters Lori Ireton and husband Jim, and Maryanne Weinert; grandchildren Matt Ireton and wife Lauren, Kate Lambert and husband Matt, and Taylour Browning; and great-grandchildren, Maddie and Lu Ireton, Mace and Meyer Lambert, and Falyn Browning and Carter Kunkel and sister and brother in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family he adored.

John was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Weinert.

To respect John's wishes, no services will be held.  But to honor John's memory, the family encourages you to spend an afternoon at a golf course, toast his memory with a glass of scotch or a Miller Lite, or, if your heart desires, take inventory of your bar stock.
