Obituary

John S. Starzyk (1950-2024)

John Stanislaw Starzyk, 74, of Poplar Grove, IL, died unexpectedly on October 13, 2024.

John was born in Tarnow, Poland to Franciszka [Mikosz] and Izador Starzyk on April 2, 1950. He spent his childhood in Poland and then moved to the United States in his late teens to live with his mother. After his mother passed in 1971, John was left alone in the states, but that didn't deter him from creating a better future for himself. He worked hard and became a U.S. citizen in 1977. He enjoyed traveling whenever he could around the country and documenting it. Whether it be cross-states or cross country, John always had a camera with him to film himself or his family along the way. When he retired, John settled in Poplar Grove where he owned a house he was very proud of and loved sharing. In Poplar Grove he made friends with people everywhere he went. He was well known for his karaoke singing at the local bars and inviting people over for homemade sausage and wine. Even after being diagnosed with cancer in 2022, his outlook on life never changed. He constantly made plans for the future and maintained a positive attitude along the way. He was set on living his life to the fullest.

Along with his love for karaoke, John also loved Elvis, Western shows, cooking, and socializing with everyone he came into contact with. John would make time for anyone who asked and would enjoy every minute.

John was preceded in death by his parents, and survived by his four children, 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
