John L. McCall, 71, of Sycamore died on December 27, 2022 at the Bethany Rehab Center.
He was born on August 24, 1951 in Richmond, VA. to Raymond and Ella McCall. He married Fran (Kueffner) Haagenson on
July 7, 2015.
John was a decorated veteran police officer retiring from the West Chicago Police Department with the rank of Sergeant. During that time he became active as a traffic investigator, fire investigator and was the supervisor of field training officers program. John also served in the
DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force from its beginnings, leaving with the rank of Operations Commander.
John gives the love of his life, Fran, credit for making the world a brighter place. His passion was his love of animals, animal adoption and the Chicago Cubs.
Survivors include his wife, Fran; 2 step-daughters, Heidi (Jim) Ratliff and Jenny (Carl) Kumlin; 8 grandchildren, Amanda Ratliff, Ashley (Doug) Cermak, Valerie Richter, Ian Kumlin, Cassidy Richter, Holly Kumlin,
Erik Richter and Ella Richter; and his beloved pets, Paddlefoot, Koko and DeeDee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary McCall and brother, Raymond McCall.
His visitation will be on Saturday, Jan, 7th from 11:00-1:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL. with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM.
Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore.
