Jim Robers, 74 years old, died Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois, after a recent illness related to kidney failure.

He was born August 30, 1949 to Charles and Phyllis (Johnson) Robers of Burlington, Wisconsin.

Jim was a carefree individual, who would do anything for anyone and was always up for a drive.  He particularly enjoyed traveling the backroads of Wisconsin and attending tractor/steam power shows and auctions.  He was lovingly referred to as OnStar Dad as he could give anyone directions throughout the tri-state area.

Throughout his career, he worked at various lumber yards, driving semi for Georgia Pacific/Blue Linx and Skyway.  More recently, he occasionally worked for Lutheran Social Services of Illinois transporting clients to visits and appointments.  He was also previously a volunteer firefighter on the Genoa-Kingston Fire Department.

Jim loved spending time with family and friends including attending his grandchildren's concerts.  He enjoyed listening to country music, camping, grilling out, watching old western and crime TV shows, playing cribbage, bowling, hunting, rooting for UW-Madison sports teams, and birdwatching.  He had a creative solution for most problems, which occasionally included tapping things with his cane to encourage them to work again.  He was also notorious for wearing interesting suspenders such as those with American flag or tape measure patterns.

Jim is survived by his wife, Doris (Amann) Robers, whom he married on September 29, 1979; daughter Corin Robers of Dixon, IL; son John and daughter-in-law Jenelle (Turner) Robers; grandchildren NiaMae and Turner Robers of Sycamore, IL.  Survivors also include four daughters of a previous marriage:  Gena (Dave) Quaid of Lyons, WI; Geri (Dave) Henningfield of Burlington, WI; Gayle (Rick) Hoege of Portage, WI; and Glenda Potter of Lyons, WI.  He is also survived by his siblings: Shirley (Harry) Mason of Stevens Point, WI; Peggy Albert of Genoa City, WI; Dan (Carol) Robers of Madison, AL; Doug Robers of Stevens Point, WI; and Lori (Kevin) Berris of Burlington, WI.  He is further survived by other friends and neighbors who became family, other relatives, and nieces and nephews.

Family who preceded him in death include his parents, Charles and Phyllis Robers, infant brother Chucky, and sister Debbie and her husband Dennis Findley of Wautoma, WI.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family at Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 9am-11am. A Christian Mass will be celebrated following the visitation at 11:30am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 244 Waterman St. in Sycamore, IL.

A luncheon will follow the service in the St. Mary Parish Activity Center, 244 Waterman St., Sycamore, IL.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.   The family thanks the nurses and doctors at Kishwaukee and Sherman Hospitals, and Advocate Hospice for their wonderful care.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary's Catholic School to go towards tuition scholarships or Masses said in Jim's honor at St. Mary's Church in Sycamore, IL are welcome.
