Obituary

Jerroll "Jerry" Carls age 90 of Sycamore was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, May 25, 2026, surrounded by the love and prayers of his family.

He was born in Rochelle, Illinois, on September 15, 1935, to proud parents Herman and Lois Carls. Jerry graduated from Marengo High School in 1953.

Jerry was a man of many talents and wore many different hats over the years. One of the proudest titles he wore was Dad to his son, Tad, his daughter, Robin, and stepfather to Shelly, Scott, and Beth. Jerry also was a foster dad to over 20 foster children, providing them with love and support in his home.

He farmed for his Dad in Marengo and also in Sycamore for himself. He worked for the Illinois Tollway and also for Santa Clara Transit as a large bus mechanic and Santa Clara Park District. Jerry delivered liquid hydrogen along the California coast.  In his later years he became a realtor with his wife Diana. They made quite the team!

Jerry loved to be a beekeeper and harvest honey from their bee hives. Jerry looked forward to summers with Diana so that they could can all types of goodies, from jams to soups, they canned it all!

Jerry was a collector of all things. He was a master of the 'nearly finished' project, leaving behind a legacy of great ideas and spare parts. He had a great sense of humor and offered a smile to all.  Give him velcro and a bungee cord and he could fix anything!

Survived by his loving wife Diana Carls, his sister Cindy Carls, a son Tad (Laurie) Carls of Florida, a daughter Robin Bernardoni of California, and two step-daughters Shelly (Jay) Ruby, and Beth (Roger) Haeffner. Four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and fourteen step-great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents Herman and Lois Carls, brothers James Carls, and Thomas Carls, his son-in-law Pete Bernardoni, and stepson Scott Morrasy.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to DeKalb County Nursing and Rehab Center for the exceptional care Jerry received.

A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
