Jeri Lynn Delaney

Jeri was born and raised in Joliet, Illinois by her parents Thomas "Duke" and Beverly
(Young) Allen. She attended Joliet Township High School and graduated in 1963. After
high school she worked as a bank teller. She married her first and only love, Dr. Patrick
R. Delaney in 1967, a marriage from which they had one daughter that they adored,
Colleen.

Jeri and Pat moved to DeKalb County in the early 1970s where they planted their roots
within both the NIU and Sycamore communities. The impact of their influence, warmth,
dedication, innovation, and love is still felt within these communities today.

Beginning in early 1980s, Jeri worked as a teacher's assistant at Sycamore High School
and spent her time impacting the lives of hundreds of students through humor, love, and
thoughtfulness. Jeri had a true passion for helping students and was a strong advocate
for many. Her legacy at Sycamore High School lives on through the many students that
recall "Miss Jeri" and the ways in which she helped everyone she met. Ultimately, she
retired in 1999 in order to spend more time with her grandchildren, who were the light of
her life.

Her caring nature and generosity knew no bounds and her presence lit up a room. She
was "Grandma Jeri" to everyone she met. She always offered food, drink, a kind word,
or a joke to those in her company. She always made sure that those in her company felt
comfortable, loved, and appreciated.

Jeri was survived by her daughter, Colleen, son-in-law, Brent McConnaughay, her three
granddaughters that she worshipped, Mary Katherine, Margaret Grace, and Megan
Delaney. Her sister, Jacqueline (John) Simon, her sister-in-law, Monica Karneboge,
nieces Lisa Simon, Kara (Greg) Ratfield, Cindy Jones, Denise O'Grady, nephews Tom
Simon, Adam Karneboge and Robert Kubinski, and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

She's preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Patrick R. Delaney, her parents, sister-in-law, Roseanne Kubinski, and brother-in-law, Brian Karneboge.

She died at 77 years old in Oakcrest Retirement Center in DeKalb and was grateful for
the care and love that she received from her community there.

Her memorial visitation will be on Saturday, August 13th from 11:00 AM- 2:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL.

In lieu of flowers there will be a scholarship fund in memory of Jeri Delaney at the Sycamore High School. Checks can be made out to her family or to the Butala Funeral Home.
