Jeffrey Paul Murphy, 49, of Sycamore, IL, lost his battle with cancer on August 20, 2024 at his home. Jeff was beloved by all who knew him and his loss is profound.  Jeff will be remembered by so many for his infectious smile, his contagious laughter, his generous spirit, and his unending love for his family and friends.

He was born on July 27, 1975 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Richard and Roseann (Searle) Murphy. He married Kirstin Hastings on July 22, 2006 and had two sons, Connor, 15, and Ryan, 12.

Jeff graduated from Cary-Grove High School in 1993 where he was an avid swimmer on the swim team. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Mathematics and a teaching certification. Jeff went on to earn two master's degrees as well.

Jeff was a high school math teacher at Dekalb High for 20 years, including his student teaching. He was a very dynamic teacher who put his heart and soul into teaching, which students and staff both benefited from. He wasn't afraid to be a little crazy and take risks in order to make sure his students not only learned content, but also had fun. Jeff was very passionate about education and an amazing teacher.

Jeff loved everything outdoors. His favorite things to do were go camping with his family and fishing with his boys. He also loved music, golfing, boating, snowmobiling, hiking, or anything that led to a good time with family or friends. Jeff's greatest accomplishment and what he loved the most, was being an amazing father to his boys. He coached them in baseball and football and looked forward to each season. He was always so proud of his boys in everything they did, on and off the field.

Jeff is survived by his wife Kirstin (Hastings) and their two sons, Connor and Ryan. His brother Chris Murphy, his wife Mary (Donley) and their children Lilly and Finn.  Sister-in-law Brittany Stefani and husband Anthony and their children Wesley and Kyla.  Father Rich Murphy and mother-in-law Linda Hastings.

He was preceded in death by his mom, Roseanne Murphy and father-in-law, Kendall Hastings, and both sets of grandparents.

His visitation will be on Monday, September 2nd from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home in Sycamore. A memorial to honor Jeff will begin at 4:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, Jeff asked for a memorial contribution to his sons' Education Fund since education was so important to him.
