Obituary

J.C. Roach, 70, of Sycamore, Illinois, passed away on March 19, 2026.

He was born on October 14, 1955, in Bassett, Arkansas, to R.C. and Mildred Roach, one of 13 siblings. J.C. was raised in Kingston, Illinois, where he grew up surrounded by community and lifelong friends, and later graduated from Genoa-Kingston High School in 1974.

J.C. shared a remarkable 48-year marriage with his beloved wife, Linda, whom he met in high school. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family. He was a proud father to Kaitlyn (Brad) Fabrizius and a grandfather to Harper, who brought him immense joy.

J.C. dedicated much of his life to serving his community through his work. He began his career in wastewater management with Genoa and went on to serve the City of Sycamore Wastewater Department for 30 years, including 16 years as superintendent. During his tenure, the plant was honored with the Treatment Plant of the Year award, a reflection of his leadership and commitment to excellence. He also contributed many years of service to the City of Malta.

Outside of work, J.C. embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved spending time golfing, proudly achieving two hole-in-ones at the Sycamore Golf Course. He was a loyal fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, always cheering them on. He also found joy in cooking and bringing the family together around a good meal, especially during the holidays.

J.C. was deeply involved in his community and especially cherished his role as a coach. He coached many of his daughter Kaitlyn's sports teams and was instrumental in starting the boys and girls basketball program for St. Mary's of Sycamore. His dedication to mentoring young athletes left a lasting legacy of encouragement, teamwork, and heart.

Above all, J.C. will be remembered for his kindness, his steady presence, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, community spirit, and deep devotion to those he loved.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Butala Funeral Home, 1405 DeKalb Ave. in Sycamore, with a funeral service to follow from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Catherine Cemetery in Genoa.
